Shaun Wright, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, has launched the first round of funding for his 2013 Commissioner Grant Scheme. The scheme provides funds for community projects that tackle policing priorities.
Non-profit voluntary and community organisations throughout South Yorkshire are being encouraged to apply for a grant from £10,000 up to £50,000 to help towards their projects. Later funding rounds scheduled to open in April and again in the autumn will support smaller projects awarding from £1 to £10,000.
In order to be considered for a grant, the projects must target at least one of Commissioner Wright’s priorities outlined in the Police and Crime plan:
- Protect the most vulnerable people from crime
- To reduce antisocial behaviour
- Improve visible policing
- Prevent reoffending
- Ensuring victims and witnesses receive a better deal
Commissioner Wright said:
“I am delighted to open this scheme and am looking forward to applications from groups across the county. I know what vital services voluntary groups provide in our communities while relying on support from the public. These groups often suffer most in these harsh economic times and I want to help them continue their valuable work. I am investing monies to fund projects in our communities that make a real difference”
