Consultation on Community Assemblies

The Government funding cuts next year together with increasing pressures means the Council has to save £50 million during 2013/14.

Proposals being considered affecting the future of Community Assemblies include:

  • The Community Assemblies structure being replaced with a Ward based structure and area based infrastructure;
  • The Discretionary Grants budget for the city being reduced from £1.6 million to £300,000 per year shared between Wards; and
  • Put £280,000 per year into a new team of Council Officers and stop funding Community Assembly and Locality Management teams at a combined cost of £995,000.

This Team would be centrally managed, linked to groupings of wards and support the area based structures. For further information and the opportunity to comment please go to https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/in-your-area/community-assemblies
