Award for Environmental Protection Service

Sheffield City Council’s Environmental Protection Service has been awarded a unique national commendation by the Noise Abatement Society. The John Connell Special Commendation Award recognises unsung public sector heroes who have worked consistently and tirelessly, often beyond the call of duty, to achieve the goal of a quieter, healthier and safer environment.

The Night Time Noise Service and its unique way of working in partnership with South Yorkshire Police won the main award in 2010. Since then, when out and about, the team have not only dealt with the noise reported but also helped track down criminals, and enabled antisocial behaviour to be dealt with whilst it is happening.

Cllr Jack Scott, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Street scene said “I know that this team is doing a great job on the night, helping to reduce people’s suffering at the hands of those causing anti social behaviour – it’s great news that this work is now recognised again at the national level. It shows that we can all do our bit to ensure our City is amongst the safest in the country.”

So remember if you have a problem with noise Sunday to Thursday 7pm – 2.00 am, Friday and Saturday 7pm – 3.00 am don’t suffer in silence ring 101 and report it!
