Public Realm Improvements for Stocksbridge

Area in front of the Library before the improvements…

The public realm improvement work outside Stocksbridge Library has now been completed. As many people in the area know, the area outside the library used to previously suffer from subsidence problems that caused significant undulation in some parts and many of the paving stones were cracked.

The new improvements, which were publicly consulted on with Stocksbridge residents at various stages in 2011, have sought to provide a space that people can sit and enjoy, one that provides better access through the District Centre as a whole.

The new surface provides level access across the site, eliminating trip hazards and improving the look of the area. The two large new planting beds are now planted up and as the photos show have really improved the look of the whole area. The scheme is funded through Sheffield City Council, including the Northern Community Assembly, and bolstered by a contribution from TATA Steel.
