The Olympic Torch comes to our area

On Monday Chapeltown was honoured to be the first stop off for the Olympic Torch in Sheffield. The people carrying the torch through the Northern area included local lad Josh Magill from High Green and John Burkhill who is regularly seen around the area fundraising for Macmillan.

It is estimated that around 7,000 people came out to see the torch in the Chapeltown area. The Northern Community Assembly Councillors and team were present at the event to give out sports bags and water bottles to encourage young people to get active. They were also helping children to make torches of there own to take home as a memento of the day.

The event was helped by the great weather and it was enjoyed by all. The torch then went on to Ecclesfield where further celebrations that had been planned by the local community. The Northern Community Assembly area was honoured to welcome the torch to Sheffield.
