Success for local groups at You Choose Event

This week we held our West Ecclesfield Ward You Choose Event. These are the events where community members vote on which local projects they would like to see money spent on in their area.

High Hopes were one of the successful groups on the evening. Rachel Pickin from High Hopes, said: “Getting this funding is a massive thing for these kids. The drama classes give them something fun and constructive to do and this money has given us the security to keep going for the year.”

“The You Choose system is fantastic. It’s allowed us to get funding much more quickly than we could have otherwise and it’s great that the people now have control over what’s going on in their community.”

Chair of the Northern Community Assembly, Councillor Alan Hooper, said: “It’s great to see grass roots community organisations like High Hopes benefitting from You Choose funding. It shows how the community here values the great work they do with young people. You Choose is all about real local democracy, and I’m happy that these local children will benefit, as well as many other local groups and organisations doing fantastic work in communities.”

We will be holding a further two You Choose events on 16 November in Newton Hall, Chapeltown (starting promptly at 6pm) for the East Ecclesfield Ward and 27 November in Bradfield School  (starting promptly at 2pm) for the Stannington Ward. We welcome all ward residents aged 11 and over to come along and vote for how they would like to see money spent in their local area.
