Community groups, small businesses, surgeries, shops, offices, churches and voluntary sector organisations can all apply for up to two new cycle parking stands. Each stand holds two bikes neatly and securely. The recipient is responsible for installing them on their own premises in a location agreed with the scheme organiser.

The community cycle parking scheme is supported by Sheffield City Council and is managed by a social enterprise called ParkThatBike.  From Sheffield City Council, Councillor Leigh Bramall, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport said: “Cycling in Sheffield has never been so popular.  It’s important that as a council we support people in their travel choices, and that employers can support their employees. Good cycle parking reduces the likelihood of theft or damage. This scheme is part of a South Yorkshire county-wide project using money that is specifically ring fenced for sustainable projects.” From ParkThatBike, Peter Andrews, Director said: “This is a simple, cost-effective initiative to combat cycle theft and to make cycling easier and more convenient. We’re particularly keen to see applications from small businesses, community groups and good causes that would otherwise struggle to afford quality cycle parking.

There would be two magistrates for the presentation, lasting about one hour, during which they would talk about the work and duties of local JP’s, followed by a Q&A session. There could be an opportunity for group members to participate in a role play scenario of a court case whereby they can decide the fate of the defendant but this is not a compulsory part of the session. There is no charge for the presentation.
